The age of participants
It is interesting to know in which age professional shogi players take part in tournaments. How many young and old players among the professionals? Some answers can give statistics of Meijin tournaments statistics during last 25 years.
In the table below players of all ages are divided on 8 age categories (from players under 20 years to players more that 70 years). The first column is the number of Meijin tournament. The next columns are the number of players of each age category for classes A, B1, B2, C1, C2. In columт "T" is shown the number of one age category players for every Meijin tournament.
It is quite rare occasion to see very young and very old plaers in Meijin tournaments. For instance Koji Tanigawa is the only player participated in classes B1 (40th Meijin tournament) and B2 (41th Meijin) in the age under 20 year.
